I wonder if this is really what Intel thinks or whether this is the administration telling us what intel thinks?

I wished I could have trust in our current administration.

  • mtntrek3

Yeah Iran ... gotta watch them, but I sure hope this isn't a "re-do" the likes of WMD's "discovered" in Iraq.

  • kritikosman

    'believes'!? Oh boy! How convincing.

  • DavieFL

Trump is desperate for a war with Iran, and he and his buddies are working hard on it. After all, the last Republican presidents had at least one war under their belts.

  • B-K KnightRider

Well duh, of course Trump's flunkies are blaming Iran. Bolton and Pompeo want regime change, Trump is desperate for distractions, and Bolton is willing if not eager to manipulate us into starting another unnecessary war to get the regime change he craves. I won't trust a damn thing that Trump or any of Trump's flunky stooges have to say about Iran.

  • virgillionhere

Gee, I wonder why I don't believe a word this administration says.

  • Dosadi

If Iran was going to do this they would have waited until the tankers were full. This plot has Trump written all over it.

  • BobMex

Trump calls Iranians terrorists, so he can bypass Congress and go to war with Iran.

  • Cherry

The problem is that Trump doesn't know what to do with intelligence since he's never had any.

  • TexWho

"That doesn't mean the threats that we previously identified have gone away," Shanahan added.

More likely it means that they were never real to begin with.

The US intelligence has an embarrassing history of getting it wrong, media outlets ought to be careful when reporting on such topics.

What US intelligence claims to believe is no better than a 3 year old who was made to believe that Santa lives on the North pole.

What's required is nothing less than solid and independently verifiable evidence.

  • TerminalSanity

Glad to see most everyone here knows this is nonsense. Make your voices heard across all media people and let (T)rump know that if he starts a war with Iran on false pretenses he'll find himself on trial in the Hague for war crimes.

  • Pologize3

"Iran's elite IRGC placed explosive charges"

Are they really trying to tell us that an elite force couldn't sink ships?

  • ianemdee

    Well....at least N. Korea disarmed (not !).

  • ianemdee

Sadly, Trump (administration) cannot be trusted in matters domestic and foreign.

  • RG

It must be great to invent vague threats and then, when nothing happens, claim what you did prevented whatever it was from happening.

  • beingcurious

Sad state of the nation when a voter can't simply assume the WH tells the truth.

  • Gustav Dahl

Before the US military drops one bomb or fires one gun, Trump should be forced to go to Congress with an estimate of the dollars to be spent and the maximum numbers of American soldiers that will be killed or wounded. Also a firm timetable needs to be issued with an end date. Also the majority of the combat troops should be activated National Guards to keep the population actively involved. Than the names of every Congressman or woman will be published showing if they voted for or against war.

  • felix_navidad

This administration is full of accusations and short on evidence.

  • inonepeice

Trump also managed to threaten Mexico again with a tweet today as well.

  • sg

The funny part of this is that Trump most likely has no intention of actually attacking Iran, but is using the pressure to try to get them to "make a deal". Most likely they will ignore him, like NK did, and they will see that he is really a paper tiger.

Can someone explain to me what threat Iran poses to the US country? A country on the other side of the world for US citizens. A country without nuclear weapons, a country whose rockets can hit a maximum of 700 miles. A country of which no terrorist has attacked the US, not even another country outside the Middle East. My next question is why the US army is everywhere on the border with Iran? What country is trying to starve the Iranians like the Nazis did in the Warsaw Ghetto and the Israelis are now doing in Gaza? The US is writing the black page of its history. If you want to know what that means, you should go and ask the Germans who are still walking around with a certain sense of guilt, even the children of those who have experienced the war. That many American soldiers will come back to their country as body bags from a war that they know they have nothing to do with . That they serve as mercenary soldiers for the Trump gang, a president who called in his election propaganda that he would take every US soldier from abroad to the US. The American citizen has no problems with that

"It's quite possible that Iran was behind these," Pompeo said"

OMG, really? Quite possible? And that was the justification for spending billions in sending a task force to the area? Methinks this is just another "dangerous caravan" deflection by Trump and his gang of amateur incompetents. If a war does start, it will make the decision to start the Iraq War look like a picnic.

  • don nash

The administration's narrative is flimsy at best. Another Middle Eastern war started on a presidential whim. Remember, the U.S. is STILL in Afghanistan and Iraq. We've been there and done that, NEVER AGAIN!

  • falsetruth

Trump needs a war to get re-elected.

  • ISaidIt

Whenever you see sabre-rattling with Iran, think to yourself and ask ... will the US ever go to war with Iran? The answer is 'Never'. Soooo, then what is the recurring play-war all about? To hide something via smoke-screen.

  • inonepeice

Not so long ago Trump sided with the Saudis when they severed their ties with Qatar. This is while Qatar as an ally was allowing us to station 10,000 US Troops there. I don't even think Trump as our President even knew we had 10,000 troops stationed there. If he did why would he put them in harms way by siding against the country that was hosting so many U.S. troops? He is stupid and reckless and I believe he will lie to start a war with Iran.

  • inonepeice

I saw this a while back.
Trump aide walks into the Oval and says: OKAY! N. Korea has agreed to denuclearize, dismantling their program and allowing inspections, lowering the risk of war and proliferation.
Trump: See? I got the BEST deal ever!!
Trump aide: Ooops - No, wait I was reading the IRAN deal.
    Trump: WORST deal ever!!

  • Army Brat

This is the problem when you have a President that has proven to be a pathological liar. How on earth can any foreign Government or our own country believe anything he says.

  • Itwillsoonbeover

Pompeo statement that it is "quite possible" that Iran attacked the ships, well it is just as possible Nemo did it. Pompeo hard facts only please, no guessing when you are talking about our young men and women in another war.

This should be Saudi Arabia's fight with Iran not ours. Of course Trump & Kushner have many business dealing in the Kingdom and they wouldn't want to lose any of those dollars.

  • inonepeice

    This is a set up.

  • inonepeice

We don't need a war based on Trump lies. Our children are at more risk from anybody with a gun here in America in our schools. malls, movie theaters, and streets than they are from Iran.

  • Maelstrom_19

Sounds like a Gulf of Tonkin in the making.

  • Cherry

I've been wearing the same underwear since last week and so far no attacks on Americans have occurred.

    You're welcome.

  • s DAN

The say no American attacks then why are we responding to tanker attacks of other nations???????

  • Dale Everhart

Is that why Kerry is violating the Logan Act? Or Feinstein proudly displaying her conversation on an I-Phone with an Iranian Official in defiance of the rule of treason? They want everyone to believe it is all President Trump's fault for shredding Obama's crappy Iran Nuclear Treaty and initiating sanctions against a known Terrorist Regime?
