That's Christian compassion for you - let people starve in the name of saving money to reduce taxes on the rich.

  • madison55

Don't you know the economy is booming these people should have a job. Everything is great! So let them starve! /s

  • wd65

The Republican "war on the poor" is in full view in Kansas.

  • fmd160

"While my team believes the policy we put in place is legally defensible, we have determined that it isn't worth the cost to Kansas taxpayers to engage in a protracted court battle," Kelly said during a Statehouse news conference.
    Wait...it isn't worth the cost........I might not win re-election?

  • Cee

We waste nearly half of all food produced so with that said I don’t give a damn who eats. Our food producers are as important to us as our military is and they have to learn how to make more food not less. You cons are so obsessed with someone getting something for free that we can’t solve the simplest problems in our country.

  • Chipnputt

Wow! Asking someone to work for their own existence? Oh, the humanity.

  • Kevin from Wa.

Kansas a"Pro Life" State likes to "kill people" the old fashioned way......STARVE THEM.

  • ReviewTheFacts

So, if people don't have the requisite skills to do the job, the GOP wants to starve American citizens to death? Sounds about right for the "freedom" and "patriot" party. Please vote, people!

  • Jeff Wainright

I escaped from Kansas shortly after they legislated the Biblical Creationism would be taught as historical fact in public schools, and periodically I am reminded why leaving Kansas was one of the best life choices I have ever made.

  • Ctrygrl

Making sure poor people go hungry, what the GOP is all about.

  • Weazerdogg

Humanitarian grounds. Republican'ts don't care about humans. Hell, they are barely human themselves.

  • mh

Elections have consequences. Thoughts and Prayers.

  • Verity Pendleton

Kansas. Decades of GOP rule have decimated the state. Education, job creation, etc., have placed it at the bottom of the list.

  • CaptnBlynd

How dare they not give free food away forever! Until we transition people back into being a productive member of society we will be supporting failure. That is the purpose of assistance limitations.
Guess what? People who refuse to live up to state requirements can move to another state so they still have a choice. This is why we are 50 states instead of ruled by one law.

  • Gumby4417

The propaganda coming from the GOP about people who are without work being undeserving of government assistance is dishonest and disgraceful. The GOP has become the party of hate and greed. Feeling great now, America?

  • Elizabeth Thomas

This is why local elections are so important. A state might have a democrat Governor but if the legislature has a republican majority no changes will ever be made.

  • beingcurious

Hey GOP, why not a campaign to cut funding for education in your state? Oh, you already did that and had to reverse course after citizen outrage. The party of the average person. /s

  • Arryandan

This is one of the reasons that 25% of American children now go to bed hungry. Republicans are heartless, especially after they've had their tax-break.

  • P'Thizikil

This is why the US is under UN investigation as being among the countries with the worst treatment of the poor. It has been proven over and over that people generally want to work when they can. How about job creation and assistance with placements?

  • Gun Toting Liberal

Republicans are the worst society has to offer

  • MtnGirl

Don't move to Kansas if you are poor. Out of Brownback's policies to cut taxes for the wealthy, then see roads, schools, healthcare and other infrastructure crumble, he tightened food programs with additional work requirements, even for poor families with little children. Half of the last adults still getting help do not have any transportation to get to a job. And they're living on less than $600 per month. Truly the very poor. Trump wants to kick another few hundred thousand adults across the US off any kind of food assistance as well. After giving huge tax breaks to the wealthiest of people, this is truly draconian.

  • Henry R

"The measure gained national attention for telling families they can't use cash assistance to attend concerts, get tattoos, see a psychic or buy lingerie. The list of don'ts amounted to several dozen items."

Why is this a problem? If people can afford lingerie or tattoos, they can afford food.

  • Lifeishortgetaladder.

    welfare deregulation... ?!
that sounds like taxes getting raised ---

  • Fred

Wonder what a peasant revolt looks like. Keep this up. You will know. One of history constant.

  • virgillionhere

    "Let them eat cake!"

    - GOP

  • Erika

The Republican party at its best it's easy for they have good health insurance, pension, salary, tax breaks, they can afford food. But us working poor sometimes cannot. Especially if your single with no kids forget the government will not help you. After rent ,utilities, gas, health insurance if ur lucky nothing left for food. Vote democrat 2020

  • SarcasTex

Imagine if Jesus were a republican and he had five loaves of bread and two fish to feed a multitude of people. It might go something like: 'Who are the wealthiest and most productive? You split the fish and bread among you, you've earned it and deserve it more than the rest. Those who are more needful and less wealthy, you go find your own, make something of yourself and stop asking for a handout.'

  • notorious

Republicans: People who convince the poor that the reason they are poor is because other people are stealing their crumbs.....while they make off with the cake.

  • Army Brat

Disgusting to think that Americans would knowingly allow people to go hungry
Republicans are pure evil with their bible and guns

  • WesternIowan

So the GOP ruins the Kansas economy and then puts work requirements on people hoping they starve... That's evil.

  • Rileyman

Big failure to understand the cause, and even bigger failure of a solution. Rather than governing by emotion, these legislators should really go back to school and learn some facts. Cutting off food is not going to motivate folks toward gainful employment. It may work when training a dog, but this problem is a bit more complex. If their goal is to divide the community, increase crime, alcoholism and drug use, then they are on the right path. Unfortunately a common theme in the GOP led regions. It must be a terrible existence to automatically assume every other person will lie, cheat and steal whatever they can.

  • Rodney Barnburn

The Koch brothers own Kansas. This is their legacy.

  • bee's knees

Sam Brownback's legacy is the pestilence that Kansas just doesn't seem to be able to rid itself of. It's worse than grasshoppers.

  • ROBOTIX JONES

No one makes peoples lives harder than the GOP......unless your rich.

  • Elise

    Feed the people!

  • mik8888

Another 'screw you' law that doesn't adress any issue other than survival of the fitest...

  • Richard

    What's the matter with Kansas!!!!

  • myopinionpal

Didn't Republicans claim to be pro life. And now they want to starve people to death.Their motto now is we saved you from being aborted so you're no longer any use to us now so go ahead and die.

  • amersham1046z

    You are born poor--
    You live poor--
    And you die poor--
and we will make sure there is nothing you can do about it

  • Linzie Rogers

This is an every man for himself society. In such a society if you're unable to maintain your survival then tough. It's never expressed that way in words but policy will say it. I wonder what Darwin would say were he alive today?

  • MDK2020

Republicans have contempt for the poor, but they want the votes of poor whites

  • Bill Toone

They want us to all work at the pig slopping plant. They had a cr ppy life and they want the same for everybody else.
